04 — When to go

When should you visit Trysil?

Snow lies from November to April, but each month has its own character. Here is what to expect through the year.

November

Winter

Early season opening, often with machine-made snow. Lower prices, fewer people.

December

Peak

Festive atmosphere and good snow. The Christmas week is peak — book early.

January

Winter

Steady cold and good snow. Quieter weeks between the weekends.

February

Peak

School half-terms make these the region's busiest weeks. Daylight returns.

March

Winter

Often the best month: plenty of snow, milder air and light well into the evening.

April

Peak

Spring snow and Easter. The season closes with sun and softer conditions.

Jun–Aug

Summer

Biking, hiking and fishing. Green mountains and long, light evenings.

Sep–Oct

Summer

Autumn colour and quiet trails. Low season with plenty of room.

Peak or low season?

The busiest — and priciest — periods are the Christmas week, the February half-terms and Easter. For lower prices and shorter lift queues, early December, mid-January and late March are good choices. Snow is often at its best in March, paired with milder weather and long days.

Weather and temperature

Midwinter can get genuinely cold, down towards −20 °C (−4 °F) on the coldest days, so dress in layers. Through March and April it grows milder and brighter. In summer, temperatures typically sit between 15 and 22 °C (59–72 °F) — comfortable for biking and hiking.
