How to get to Trysil

Most international visitors fly into Oslo and continue by hire car or transfer. Here are the airports, distances and what to expect on the road.

Nearest airports and transfer times

Trysil sits in eastern Norway, close to the Swedish border. The most common arrival point is Oslo Airport (Gardermoen), roughly two hours away by road. Stockholm is a longer but workable alternative if the fares suit you better.

Times are a guide for good conditions. Allow extra on Friday changeover days in high season and in winter weather.

By hire car

Driving yourself is the simplest option, especially with ski gear and luggage. From Gardermoen the route follows Rv25 through Elverum to Trysil and is well signposted and cleared year-round. Remember that Norway drives on the right, and that roads charge tolls electronically — most hire cars handle this automatically, so check with your provider.

By train and bus

If you would rather not drive, take the train from Oslo to Hamar or Elverum and continue by bus to Trysil. Seasonal transfer coaches also run from the airport during the winter. Once you arrive, you can manage without a car if you stay close to the slope and the village centre.

Winter driving notes

From November to April expect winter conditions on the final stretch. Hire cars in Norway come fitted with winter tyres in season, but drive to the conditions, keep your distance and check the road forecast before setting off on busy Fridays.

Charging an electric car

Fast chargers are available along the main routes and in Elverum, with charging points in Trysil centre and at many places to stay. In winter, cold reduces range, so plan a charging stop around Elverum if you are coming from Oslo and want a comfortable margin.
